Duties of Role:

 

  • In conjunction with the Laboratory Manager, POC Senior Technologist, Laboratory Director and/or Clinical Chemist, oversees the POCT program within the hospital.
  • Assist in revision and monitoring of POC policies and procedures.
  • Participates in the training of staff, as required.
  • Assist POC senior technologist Maintaining the quality assurance plan for POCT.
  • Reviews records for quality assurance and quality control.
  • Reviews QC and maintenance records.
  • Recognizes errors, problems and utilizes expertise to coordinate problem resolution, in a timely manner.
  • Educates non-laboratory staff as needed on procedures when corrective action is required.
  • Ensures the availability of supplies stored in the laboratory.
  • Monitors supplies to ensure effective utilization.
  • Validates new controls and reagents.
  • Conducts proficiency testing and responds to discordant findings reports.
  • Reviews and implements Laboratory Accreditation requirement.
  • Maintains good working relationships with all departments through meetings, personal contact or written communication, as required.
  • Serves as a member of the POCT Advisory Management Committee.
  • Develops and maintains appropriate relationships through a network of peers in other health care facilities and professional associations.
  • This function is assigned to a MLT in the laboratory and is in addition to his/her other MLT functions

 

The successful applicant will possess the following qualifications:

 

  • CSMLS Certification in Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT)
  • Current registration with CMLTO
  • Demonstrates an understanding of operational theory/procedures, performance characteristics of instruments/equipment to facilitate the effective and efficient operation of the laboratory
  • Ability to lift reagent and specimen containers
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, reach, push, lift, carry, climb without physical discomfort
  • Required to workday, evening, night weekend or holiday shifts.
  • Acceptable performance and attendance records

 

You will be best suited for this position if you have:

 

  • Previous experience in Point of care testing
