We are looking for a Follow-Up Registered Nurse to work with our SADV Department to help us continue in our mission to serve our community with Kindness, Passion, Courage, and Teamwork

Position Responsibilities:


The follow-up Registered Nurse is a member of the Ontario Network of Sexual Assault/Domestic Violence Treatment Centres (ONSADVTC) Reports to the Manager for Ambulatory Care, Dialysis, SADV and Mental Health. This position supports the survivors of sexual violence and intimate partner violence with care in the region of Dufferin-Caledon and surrounding acute care centres without an ONSADVTC. This position combines on-call and scheduled weekly shifts, including weekends and holidays.

Duties:

Acute Patient Care:
  • Provides emergency medical and nursing care to survivors of sexual assault and/or intimate partner violence (IPV) as outlined in the ONSADVTC Standards of Care (2019).
  • Assess physical, mental, and emotional support/crisis counselling.
  • Understand and explain options for care within the SADV program, including forensic evidence collection, physical examination, sexually transmitted infections testing and prophylaxis and pregnancy testing and prophylaxis.
  • Develops safety planning for survivors and their immediate family.
  • Provides follow-up care for the survivor – including medical, nursing and forensic as outlined in the ONSADVTC Standards of Care (2019).
  • Ensures collaboration with and partnership with the hospital’s emergency departments in the catchment area of the Sunrise Centre Sexual Assault/Intimate Partner Violence Treatment Centre (SA/IPVTC).
  • Maintains knowledge of current trends and literature related to sexual and intimate partner violence.
  • Participates in educational resource development.
  • Participates in monthly mandatory staff meetings and education.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned within scope.

Follow-up Patient Care:
  • Schedule and support the provision of follow-up SA/IPV follow-up care in accordance with the ONSADVTC Standards of Care (2019).
  • Utilizes appropriate follow-up technologies for appointments as applicable to the patient care needed (i.e. Virtual and in-person appointments).
  • Provides support and collaboration with partnered organizations for the provision of follow-up counselling.
  • Engages with support agencies and organizations to ensure the client's and any dependents' safety and access to services.

  • Responsible for contributing to a transparent culture of patient and staff safety by adhering to and abiding by patient and staff safety policies and procedures as set out by HHCC.
  • Mandatory Staff Education and Learning.


Qualifications:
  • Current Certification with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Nurse
  • Valid CPR certificate
  • Minimum 3 years of nursing experience with demonstrated skill and experience in acute physical assessment and crisis management.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize work effectively and establish priorities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Established comfort with computerized work environments.
  • Established comfort and expertise with virtual provision of nursing care.
  • Established ability to function proficiently in an independent environment.
  • Excellence as a team member.
  • Passion for supporting survivors of sexual and intimate partner violence.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing staff development, training and meetings.
  • Crisis intervention course an asset.
  • Demonstrated compassion and advocacy for survivors of sexual and intimate partner violence.
  • Acceptable performance and attendance records.
  • Certified Forensic Nurse Examiner in sexual assault and domestic violence by the ONSADVTC or commitment to become certified.

Hiring Salary Range: $39.07 - $56.00
