We are looking for a Quality Coordinator to work with our Laboratory Department to help us continue in our mission to serve our community with Kindness, Passion, Courage, and Teamwork.

Reporting to Manager of Laboratory Services, as a member of the Laboratory team the Quality Coordinator will provide ongoing support to the quality management system and will provide proactive liaison with nursing, medical staff and laboratory staff within the hospital to enable improved operation of the department, ensuring high quality, timely and accurate laboratory test results.

The Laboratory Quality Coordinator will demonstrate acceptance of the organization's philosophy of management. Demonstrate willingness to undertake duties in a friendly cooperative manner. Demonstrate a caring approach to patients, families' visitors and staff.

The Laboratory Quality Coordinator will demonstrate good interpersonal skills, works as a member of the team in the laboratory, treats others with respect, and promotes teamwork with laboratory staff, physicians, hospital staff and other customers.

 

Position Responsibilities:

 

  • Support the Continuous Quality Improvement Committee by coordinating meeting scheduling, creation and distribution of minutes, follow-up on action items, etc.
  • Provide ongoing support to hospital Quality Teams and attend Quality Team meetings as requested by the Laboratory Manager/Director.
  • Coordinate quality initiatives including review of Incident Reports and the execution of internal and external customer surveys.
  • Conduct analysis of specific quality issues or management analysis, as requested.
  • Develop, review, and revise the Quality Management Manual.
  • Oversee and maintain the Laboratory Quality Manual and ensure required policies are updated on the intranet
  • Coordinate an internal audit and self-assessment to determine how the laboratory measures up against Institute for Quality Management in Healthcare Accreditation (IQMH) Requirements
  • Participates in the Coordination of IQMH Accreditation preparation for inspections
  • Laboratory lead in Hospital Accreditation preparation for inspections
  • Coordinate and prepare agenda for management review meeting as per defined interval
  • Assists with the development of laboratory policies, processes, procedures, and forms in the electronic document control system.
  • Coordinates the document management and control of the laboratory policies, processes, procedures, and forms in electronic document control system.
  • Act as lead of laboratory safety committee
  • Develop risk assessment process, educate staff and monitor laboratory compliance.
  • Develop opportunities for improvement. Implements correction action processes and educate staff.
  • Manages projects as assigned.
  • Performs cross-functional duties as assigned or requested.

 

 

Participation:

 

  • Participate in the planning and monitoring of quality education and with staff and students
  • Collaborate with staff to develop education organization for students
  • Present or offer educational opportunities to staff
  • Provide written and verbal reports to leadership on educational initiatives, as requested
  • Act as a resource person for specific educational opportunities and preparation for medical laboratory professional week
  • Provide general Laboratory Orientation for each new employee
  • Review education policies and make suggestions for change to management
  • Maintain continuing education records for all laboratory staff
  • Support the continuous quality improvement team in:
  • Identifying quality improvement projects
  • Applying quality improvement methodology and tools
  • Identifying, developing, monitoring, and evaluating performance indicators
  • Preparing reports of quality initiatives for hospital committees
  • Celebrating achievements

 

 

Provide:

 

  • Present at meetings, as requested by the laboratory manager/ director
  • Identify major improvement opportunities that would benefit from improved communication / awareness by nursing and medical staff.
  • Provide ongoing liaison with nursing and medical staff in raising awareness and improving communications on matters relating to overall laboratory quality
  • Proactively identify new opportunities to improve the quality and turnaround time of lab results by increased understanding / changes in practice by nursing and medical staff.
  • Develop written communications and other tools to address these quality improvement priorities.
  • Present at staff forums, staff orientation, and other forums as appropriate.
  • Spend time on nursing units and clinics in informal discussion / liaison to develop relationships and identify new improvement opportunities.

 

 

Communication:

 

  • Communicates with laboratory staff about Quality improvements
  • Promotes teamwork in the laboratory
  • Notifies the Laboratory Manager with issues as required
  • Notifies the Laboratory Manager regarding non-compliance with laboratory and/or hospital policies and procedures
  • Liaises with Laboratory leadership team to ensure quality patient care
  • Communicates with hospital staff and physicians, vendors and other customers.
 
Supervision/Direction Given to Others:
  • Provides advice and guidance regarding quality initiatives to all laboratory staff.
  • Review incident reports and follow up with staff
 
Qualifications:

 

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma preferred
  • CMLTO (College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario) registration
  • Completion of a recognized Medical Laboratory Technologist program with General MLT or B.Sc. Medical Laboratory Sciences
  • Completion of Quality Management Program
  • Previous experience in Laboratory quality position
  • Minimal 5 years’ experience in a hospital environment in laboratory setting required
  • In depth knowledge of IQMH Accreditation Requirements
  • Proficiency with philosophy and methodology of continuous quality improvement (CQI) techniques.
  • Computer literacy, with software applications such as Word and Excel.
  • Computer proficiency with database management an asset.
  • Remain flexible to changing priorities and work volume.
  • Supervisory experience would be an asset
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills with the proven ability to mentor staff
  • Effective organizational/ prioritization skills, superior problem identification and solving skills
  • Ability to perform work with accuracy, efficiency and independence.
  • Demonstrates ability to work in quality management system
  • Demonstrates interest in continuing education
  • Demonstrates aptitude for project management
  • Demonstrates understanding of, compliance with, and commitment to, patient safety responsibilities and corresponding hospital plans, policies and procedures in order to ensure a safe environment for patients.
  • Acceptable performance and attendance records

 

 Hiring Salary Range: $42.24-$53.28

 
Hours of Work: Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week

 

  • Eligible for HOOPP Pension
