We are looking for a Digital Communications and Design Specialist to help us continue in our mission to serve our community with Kindness, Passion, Courage, and Teamwork
 

Reporting to the Director, Communications & Stakeholder Relations, the Digital Communications and Design Specialist will plan, develop, produce and publish engaging digital content for our internal and external audiences to advance Headwaters Health Care Centre’s strategic communication initiatives. As a member of a small team, the Digital Communications and Design Specialist has an excellent blend of technical and interpersonal communication skills, is an excellent writer with experience in digital and graphic design, in-depth knowledge of content management systems and is capable of simultaneously managing multiple projects and stakeholder expectations. This is a hybrid role.

  • This role is estimated to be 50 per cent digital communications, 40 per cent graphic design, and 10 per cent broader Communications team collaboration.

Digital Communications:
  • In collaboration with the team which includes the Director, Communications & Stakeholder Relations, and a Communications Specialist, the Digital Communications and Design Specialist develops, contributes to, and implements digital communications strategies in support of internal and external audience engagement around organizational projects and priorities.
  • Collaborate with the team to manage the editorial content calendar for all internal and external digital, video and print platforms. Liaises with colleagues to assess emerging communication priorities.
  • Oversees the corporate social media presence, including content creation, scheduling, monitoring engagement, and implementing strategies to enhance brand visibility and audience engagement across various platforms.
  • Oversees the hospital’s website and intranet and ensures content for various platforms follows the best SEO practices and Headwaters’ brand style guidelines.
  • Supports crisis communication counsel, issues management and proactive media opportunities with a specific digital communication lens.

Graphic Design: 
  • Leads efforts to establish and maintain Headwaters' corporate brand, ensuring consistent messaging and alignment across all internal and external communications channels.
  • Creates visually appealing content to support departments and hospital projects, encompassing print, digital media, presentations, displays, signage, and special initiatives, while maintaining adherence to established brand guidelines. Collaborates with external vendors to manage production processes effectively.
  • Provide photography and videography support for communications needs, including capturing photos during events, announcements, hospital initiatives, and celebrations.

Communications Team Collaboration:
  • Attends project and team meetings, develop strategy, coordinate special events, conduct interviews and write original copy for numerous communication channels.
  • Project manages the execution of communications tactics in accordance with overall strategic plans, including monitoring costs and budgets, timelines, resources and measuring outcomes.
  • Supports internal clients and internal audience engagement.
  • Works with partners such as the Headwaters Health Care Centre’s Foundation, Volunteers, the Hills of Headwaters Collaborative Ontario Health Team and other partners on joint initiatives.

  • Demonstrates a “can do” attitude, is flexible and willing to help as a team player.
 
 Qualifications:
  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline such as Journalism, Communications, Graphic Design, Marketing, Public Relations or related program from an accredited University
  • At least three to five (3 – 5) years of professional public relations, media relations, marketing and communications experience
  • Previous experience working in health care or a public sector environment, and/or an agency with clients in this environment, is desirable
  • Advanced expertise in various digital platforms and content management systems, such as Microsoft SharePoint, MailChimp, Hootsuite, and graphic design, photo, and video editing tools, including Adobe Creative Suite on a macOS.
  • Expertise in SEO, Search Engine Marketing, Customer Relationship Management
  • Problem-Solving: Systematically gathers information, identifies relationships among problems, and collaborates effectively.
  • Innovation and Decision Making: Generates ideas, evaluates alternatives, and makes sound recommendations supported by data.
  • Strategic Planning and Resource Management: Develops realistic plans, assesses resource needs accurately, and manages within budget.
  • Relationship Building: Engages openly, prioritizes teamwork, and fosters respectful relationships.
  • Effective Communication: Writes clearly, pays attention to detail, and adapts style for different audiences and channels.
