The RVH - Regional Digital Health team is at the forefront of transforming healthcare in our Region through innovative digital solutions. By leveraging cutting-edge technology and data-driven insights, the RVH - Regional Digital Health team supports RVH and a growing list of healthcare service providers, ensuring seamless integration of digital health solutions to improve clinician experience and patient outcomes. One of our keystone partnerships is our CARE4 group of four hospitals (Collingwood, Orangeville, Midland, Barrie) that share a single instance of our EMRAM 6 (Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model) accredited solutions.

Role Overview: The Regional Chief Nursing Informatics Officer (RCNIO) will engage clinical leadership across RVH and its partner organizations through the strategic planning, implementation, optimization, and operations of digital health solutions. They are ultimately responsible for guiding and mentoring of the team of clinical analysts.  This role will leverage clinical workflow knowledge to establish long term strategies in digital health, utilizing technology, data, and evidence-based information systems to support high-quality patient care and professional practice. The RCNIO will foster a culture of relationships, innovation and adaptability, motivating clinical programs to embrace change to improve care at the bedside. The RCNIO is a nursing leader with both clinical and healthcare management experience, and who has knowledge and skill in implementing and managing digital health solutions.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in nursing or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 10+ years of clinical experience in a complex healthcare service delivery environment with expertise in scaling and spreading change in healthcare delivery.
  • 5+ years of management experience in a digitally enabled healthcare service delivery environment.
  • Member in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Clinical Informatics or Health Informatics certificate preferred.
  • Experience with the implementation and management of clinical information systems.
  • Demonstrated understanding of major trends in healthcare, especially in acute care digital health. 
  • Experience with implementing evidence-based practice models in clinical settings, working with diverse interprofessional care teams.
  • Proven ability to lead in a complex environment.
  • Strong business acumen
  • Strong Customer Relation skills, interpersonal skills, and networking abilities 
  • Problem resolution, communication, interpersonal and team building

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Leadership and Oversight:
  • Partner with the VP Digital Health & Regional CIO, CNEs, and CMIOs to lead the governance committees to develop, and adopt clinical information systems and associated digital tools at RVH and at partner health services provider organizations across the region.
  • Lead a large team of clinical informatics professionals to implement, operate and continuously improve on the clinical information systems. 
  • Act as a change agent in identifying, developing, planning, implementing, and measuring the value of informatics strategies to support high-quality patient care and professional practice.

 

Strategic Liaison:
  • Serve as the strategic liaison, articulating and translating the clinical needs of nursing and allied health for the Regional Digital Health – technical teams.
  • Collaborate with our partner CMIOs and CNEs to combine knowledge of patient care, clinical workflows, evidence-based practice, informatics concepts, and change management to address the information and knowledge needs of healthcare professionals and patients.

 

Vendor Collaboration:
  • Work with vendors to proactively strategize on the development and enhancement of clinical information solutions to meet organizational and patient care needs.

 

Relationship Management:
  • Continue to build and maintain relationships with key business partners, and industry leaders to leverage best practices, evaluate and promote emerging technologies, and distribute knowledge internally to inform plans and strategies.

 

Committee Participation:
  • Chair relevant Regional, organizational and project committees as required and participate as a representative on committees, serving as the Clinical Informatics subject matter expert.
  • Advance the practice and profile of Regional Digital Health and digital strategies by participating in relevant local, regional, and provincial digital health advisory committees.

 

Use of Data:
  • Drives the strategic and operational use of data to enhance patient care, improve clinical efficiencies, and support decision making.

 

Knowledge Translation:
  • Support clinical teams and leaders with knowledge translation activities and help advance RVH’s academic mandate.
