We are looking for a Registered Technologist, Mammography to work with our Diagnostic Imaging Department to help us continue in our mission to serve our community with Kindness, Accountability, Respect, and Teamwork

 

Position Responsibilities:

The successful applicant will perform the duties expected of a Registered Technologist, Mammography/X-Ray/CT within Diagnostic Imaging Department

Reporting to the Diagnostic Imaging Manager, the Registered Technologist Mammography is accountable and responsible for the efficient Diagnostic Mammography Services for the Corporation. Adhering to the requirements of the Responsible User as defined in Safety Code 35, the Registered Technologist Mammography performs screening and diagnostic mammography with work-up including tomosynthesis, MOLLI insertion and specimen radiography, stereotactic core biopsy procedures and galactography.

 

Duties Include:
 
  • Mammography protocols, applications and equipment.
  • An understanding of the principles of mammography including positioning, breast pathology, film/screen techniques, digital mammography, x-ray and processing factors as well as related patient care techniques.
  • Setting up supplies and sterile trays for interventional breast procedures.
  • Work with students from affiliated schools as needed
  • Maintain the continuing education requirements for CMRITO and CAR-MAP
  • Provide radiography services in accordance with the standards of practice of the College of Medical Radiation and Imaging Technologists of Ontario, the guidelines provided by the HARP Act.
  • Evaluates images for diagnostic quality.
  • Assist in ongoing quality assurance.
  • Assist in quality control of equipment and computer systems.
  • Maintenance of competence of practice as required by provincial and federal legislation.
  • Participation as required in program functions and in-service education.
  • Transportation of patients as required.
  • Assist the radiologist as necessary
  • Enters data into Radiology Information System as required.
  • Assumes care for physical and psychological needs of patients during examinations and procedures.
  • Practices aseptic technique as necessary.
  • Exercises professional judgment in performance of procedures.
  • Perform portable procedures as required.
  • Perform portable procedures as required.
  • Perform clerical duties as assigned.
  • Provide assistance in the orientation of new staff members.
  • Ensure that the x-ray equipment, image processing equipment, and auxiliary equipment function correctly and are maintained properly and imaging quality assurance program for the facility (mammography), including quality control testing, establishing diagnostic reference levels, and record keeping.
  • Ensure that the equipment is used correctly and maintained properly by competent personnel who are properly trained in the safe operation of the equipment.
  • Ensure that inexperienced personnel, including students, operate the equipment only under the direct supervision of a licensed, certified, and experienced x-ray equipment operator until competence in a given clinical procedure is achieved, at which time supervision should be indirectly provided by a supervisor available on-site when needed.
  • Establish documented safe operating procedures for the equipment and ensure that operating staff are adequately instructed.
  • Ensure an investigation is completed of any known or suspected exposures received by personnel that are:  
  1. Higher than the usual dose received by that individual, or
  2. In excess of 1/20th of the dose limit for radiation workers
  • Ensure that radiation levels in controlled and uncontrolled areas are below the maximum permissible limits such that the annual dose limits to radiation workers and the public, given in Appendix I of Safety Code 35, will not be exceeded.
  • Perform all of the duties of a general duty technologist
  • The above responsibilities are not to be considered to be all-inclusive. Employees may be requested to complete other duties in the interest of the efficient operation of the hospital or effective patient care.
  • Participates in patient safety initiatives and takes action to address unsafe conditions and procedures to ensure a healthy and safe environment.

 

 
 
Qualifications:

 

  • Current Registration – College of Medical Radiation and Imaging Technologists of Ontario (CMRITO) – Radiography.
  • B.Sc. in related field preferred.
  • Certificate in Breast Imaging-Screening preferred.
  • Minimum one year experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Safety Code 35
  • Working knowledge of RHPA
  • Working knowledge of standards of practice for related field.
  • Able to identify and recommend process improvement opportunities.
  • Able to work independently and co-operatively as part of a team.

 

Hiring Salary Range: $36.84-$50.24 
*Weekends Only
