We are looking for a Interim Manager, Health Information Management, to work with our Health Records department to help us continue in our mission to serve our community with Kindness, Accountability, Respect, and Teamwork. 

Reporting to the Senior Transformation Strategy Lead, this position is accountable and responsible for the effective and efficient operation of the Health Information Management department.

The Interim Manager, is responsible for implementing and executing the priorities of patient focused departments that oversee the collection, confirmation, storage and retention or access of patient information.  In this role, the successful candidate will lead and support inter-connected teams in providing superior customer service to both internal and external stakeholders ensuring the accuracy and quality while safeguarding the integrity of Health Records.  You will be accountable for coordinating the activities of the portfolio, fostering and environment of collaboration and engagement with stakeholders and creating strong teams through an integrated information management environment.

Position Responsibilities:
 
Leadership 
 
  • Provides leadership to the Health Records and Booking, Central Registration and Switchboard teams to support them in the performance their job responsibilities including coordinating the day to day activities and workload management
  • Design ongoing training and education for staff and stakeholders to increase awareness of medical documentation requirements and legislation (PHIPPA, FIPPA)
  • Promotes, encourages and empowers team members to create an environment to support productivity and promotes a performance management driven and positive work environment
  •  Participates in the planning of short and long term objectives
       
Quality Management and Continuous Improvement
  • Implements, validates or modifies medical record & patient registration and booking process and procedures for optimal efficiency in alignment with best practices and professional standards
  • Designs and implements an audit process and controls to ensure accuracy of information, coding and submissions to the Ministry                
  • Monitors and maintains Health Information Management in accordance with established standards ensuring the security, confidentiality, record retention and accuracy of Personal Health Information
  • Participates in the development and monitoring of the budget for area of responsibility
  • Completes departmental audits, prepares reports and other data as required.

Other Duties 
  • Ensures the patient information is being released according to current legislation, and the hospitals policies and procedures.
  • Participates and represents the department in internal and external meetings
  • Liases with third party professional services to provide account management oversight and support
  • Accountable for collaborative and consistent engagement with key stakeholder departments
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
 
  • Completion of a BA or Postgraduate degree in Health Information Management or related
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in Records and Information Management, Business Analysis, Clinical Informatics or Patient Access Leadership.
  • Previous experience in Health Records including coding and abstracting is required         
  • Experience with records management action plans, tracking, reporting and supporting stakeholder implementation is an asset
  • Canadian Health Information Management Association certification preferred
  • Working knowledge with Wait Times Information System (WTIS), abstracting systems (MED2020 and DQA by 3 Terra), Hospital Information Systems (Meditech), database management and MS Outlook, Word, Excel & PowerPoint, and Business Intelligence tools
  • Proven ability to interact effectively with physicians, staff, patients and staff
  • Demonstrated knowledge of information privacy legislation (PHIPA, Public Hospital Act).
  • Experience and strong understanding  of managing in unionized environment working within a Collective Agreement
  • Energetic critical thinker with strong and effective problem solving, relationship management, organizational and team building skills
  • Skilled and influential communicator (written/verbal) with ability to impact and influence key decision makers   
  • Demonstrated understanding of quality clinical and financial information and impact of hospital funding models       

Hiring Salary Range: Compensation is commensurate with experience.
 
**The duration of this temporary contract is approximately 12 months
