We are looking for an Academic Placement Supervisor, to work with our Interprofessional Practice Department to help us continue in our mission to serve our community with Kindness, Accountability, Respect and Teamwork.
Position Responsibilities: As the Academic Placement Supervisor, reporting to the Manager, Interprofessional
Practice, Quality & Innovation you will be responsible for the creating an
endorsed recruitment and retention student strategy, lead a broad Academic Placement
Program, and supervise the education and development of the Clinical Externs for
Headwaters, in collaboration with People & Culture and Medical Affairs.
You will be responsible for managing all academic learning placements that includes needs assessment, screening, interviewing, placement, training, orientation, retention, coaching and recognition of students/learners. In addition to working alongside clinical and administrative stakeholders, you will work closely with the persons responsible for the cooperative education program and respective school boards, colleges, and university programs. You will also be responsible for providing mentorship, support, team integration, Extern supervision, and overall program implementation and evaluation of the Clinical Extern Program.
Duties Include: - Participate in the recruitment process for Clinical Externs, making hiring decisions
- Support integration of Clinical Externs at the organizational and unit level
- Contribute to Clinical Extern onboarding
- Create, adapt and deliver orientation and learning resources
- Aid in integration of team processes and role clarity
- Assist Clinical Externs to become familiar with the work in their new area of practice
- Support unit teams to collaborate with Clinical Externs to provide required patient care
- Maintain regular unit presence to support ongoing education needs and tracking of required skills attainment
- Responsible for performance management of Clinical Externs
- Provide ongoing monitoring and evaluations of Clinical Extern role
- Coordinating and maintaining affiliation agreements and contracts management
- Creating and maintaining Academic Placement policies and procedures, for all nursing, health professional, non-clinical, medical and co-op learners
- Planning, developing, implementing, supervising, and evaluating student orientation programs and services as guided by Hospital policies
- Responding to identified needs for ongoing student programs and special projects
- Strong understanding of recruitment needs across various programs
- Develop and support student engagement activities, education, socialization, and appreciation
- Build and maintain positive, trusting relationships cross-functionally within the organization
- Work closely with all areas to develop meaningful placement and student opportunities
- Develop partnership with internal departments, by understanding the unique needs, requirements, and specifications to support enhanced client/patient experience
- Ensure all placement roles are created and updated in adherence to hospital policies, procedures, and collective agreements
- Rounding
with students and unit leads to ensure the delivery of high-quality services,
satisfaction and rewarding of efforts
- Design recognition programs for students that will increase satisfaction and provide a meaningful experience
- Act as a brand ambassador, building and communicating the organization’s student programs while also assisting the department leaders in escalation to the student’s school and supporting with fact findings processes
- Promotes an environment that encourages and supports change using change management theory
- All employees of Headwaters Health Care Centre (HHCC) are responsible for contributing to a transparent culture of patient and staff safety by adhering to and abiding by patient and staff safety policies and procedures set by HHCC
- Performs other related duties as assigned
Qualifications: - Baccalaureate in relevant field.
- Registration in good standing from the healthcare regulatory college representing their profession.
- Minimum 5 years of direct inpatient care in an acute care setting
- Minimum 2 years experience teaching, precepting, supervising in the acute care setting
- Previous experience as a Clinical Instructor or Placement Supervisor
- Demonstrated leadership, change management and problem solving skills.
- Experience and oversight of digital marking strategy and tactics as they relate to recruitment
- Recent patient care experience preferred
- Recent acute care experience preferred
- Excellent clinical skills and competencies
- Outstanding communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with all team members to deliver excellent results with accuracy and integrity in a student centered environment.
- Demonstrates understanding of infection prevention and control practices
- Demonstrates conflict resolution skills
- Highly resourceful, solution-oriented and excellent problem solving skills
- Excellent computer and administrative skills including report writing and proficiency with MS Office
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including diplomacy, tact and teamwork
- Flexibility and ability to effectively manage multiple tasks with solid planning skills and use of good judgement
- Ability to prioritize time, work, and projects efficiently working will under pressure and with minimal supervision
- Available to work occasional evenings or weekends at special events and meetings
Hours of Work:
37.5 hours per week, Monday - Friday
Hiring Salary Range: Compensation is commensurate
with experience
