We are looking for a Registered Practical Nurse to work with our Emergency Department to help us continue in our mission to serve our community with Kindness, Accountability, Respect, and Teamwork
Position Responsibilities: The successful applicant will perform the duties expected of a Registered Practical Nurse within the Emergency Department.
The Registered Practical Nurse is responsible and accountable for providing quality patient/family focused nursing care to a patient population with predictable outcomes. As part of the interdisciplinary health team, the RPN will practice within their full scope in accordance with the nursing philosophy and standards set by HHCC, the College of Nurses of Ontario and the Regulated Health Professions Act legislation. Headwaters has a temporary opportunity for one (1) Registered Practical Nurse within the Emergency Department to support a dedicated Provider in Triage (PIT) shifts. The purpose of this initiative is to support the Provider in Triage model for improvement of Emergency Department flow by enabling earlier assessment, initiation of diagnostics and treatment and more efficient movement of patients through the department. The assignment can include coverage of other areas within the Emergency Department within the scope of the RPN if PIT area is not able to be accommodated. Qualifications:
- Current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Practical Nurse.
- Current Coronary Care for RPNs, IV certification, and current C.P.R. certification required.
- Recent Emergency Department experience or recent medicine/surgical experience with demonstrated competency in urgent assessment and rapid patient flow processes preferred.
- Emergency Nursing Certification for RPNs preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment and within established medical directives.
- Demonstrated competence in focused assessments, specimen collection, ECG acquisition, point-of-care testing, splinting, symptom management within scope, and recognition/escalation of clinical deterioration.
- Demonstrated ability to support high-volume patient turnover, communicate clearly with the triage nurse, PIT provider, charge nurse, and registration staff, and document care accurately in Meditech Expanse.
- Ability to support patient movement, monitor outstanding orders/results, and contribute to safe transfer of accountability for patients moving beyond the PIT area.
- Acceptable performance and attendance record.
- Completion of Emergency Department RPN orientation and competency validation before independent assignment, if required for those not already working in an ED RPN role.
- Completion of site-specific PIT orientation and competency validation prior to independent assignment.
Hiring Salary Range: $38.21 - $39.01 This position would be temporary, scheduled Monday to Friday from 1200 to 1700 daily, for a trial period of 6 months.
